Black electrical tape. That’s what I do. If you still want to see some indication. Scotch tape it, and color the tape with a Sharpie. You can even make it a different color.
Or wait. 2 years of power-on causes the luminosity of the cheap LED to drop by half, not so annoying then.
If you’re looking for a software solution, forget it. There isn’t any.
