Interoperability of some Notebook with WD 4TB 2.5" USB 3.0 Ext. HDD

Hi,

I’m now planning to purchase a WD 4TB 2.5" USB 3.0 Ext. HDD for my 2 Lenovo Notebook (YOGA 3-11 and IdeaPad 560). However, I have heard that not all notebooks can provide sufficient power supply via a USB connection. May I ask if my 2 notebooks can work well with WD My Passport Ultra 4TB 2.5" USB 3.0 Ext HDD (Model# WDBBKD0040BBY)?

Hello,

A Passport needs between 500 and 1000 mA to operate. Please verify your computer provides this power over the USB. We can also wait for another user that has tried before and can share his experience on this matter.

Hi, just got the email reply from Lenovo that these 2 notebooks can’t
supply sufficient power to the WD My Passport Ultra 4TB Ext HDD.

Looks like I can only turn to smaller volume Ext HDD or a bigger 3.5" Ext
HDD…
