Internal/external memory & Playlists

How does the Sansa Express manage internal memory and expansion memory, particularly when it comes to play lists?

When I use the player it appears to build its database using both internal and expansion memory so that the actual location of the songs is transparent.

I created a playlist in WMP (v11) using my master library on my computer and placed it in the internal memory of my player.  Some of the songs had previously been synched to the internal memory.  Others had previously been synched to the expansion memory.  When the playlist was added to the internal memory WMP copied any songs in the playlist that were not already in internal memory.  It was not smart enough to know that some of the other songs in the playlist already were in the player, but in the expansion memory.

There does not seem to be any way for WMP to use the player as a library source to create playlists.  Both the internal and external memory are listed on the left side of WMP in the Library view.  But if I click on either I do not get to see the contents.  I get a message saying I can use the Synch tab to view, add and delete the files for that memory location.

This sound more like a limit of WMP, but if there is something that Sansa can do to help, it sure would be nice.  Or, am I missing something?

WMP treats the internal memory and the external memory as two different devices. You will not be able to create a playlist, using WMP, with songs from both the internal and external memory.

You can use the Go List to get one playlist. You can add songs manually from either the internal or external memory to the Go List.

You can manually create playlists using music from either the internal or external memory. See the instructions in the attached thread.

I’m not surprised. This thread is over 4 years old. Things change.
