This is my problem for ever and ever:
-
like WD, many companies offer FILE BACKUP
-
none offer Image Backup on a portable hard disk
A. This is what I need:
-
a fast portable and pocketable hard disk with usb 3.0 (like WD Passport or so)
-
software to make an Image Backup of a PC’s Hard Drive(s) (like drive C:) to this prtable disk
-
the software to do this and also to recover the PC’s HD, should be installed and ready ON THE PORTABLE HD (from preferably Western Digital)
Why? Well, I work in my external office on a PC or Laptop. Just before I leave to my home office or go home, I want to make an Image Backup of my PC/Laptop at the office, so, just in case my PC’s HD crashes (I will keep them running, so I can use the over the Internet), I can simply restore the PC by installing a new HD and than, at first standard startup, I will have the Portable Disk plugged in at the PC’s USB 3.0, and the software (of WD) on the Portable Hard Disk will ask me if I want to restore the Image Backup on my PC!!!
Now I can only achieve this approximately by buying as many licences as I have PC,s/laptops etc. and installing this software on each PC etc. and than first making a basic startup/recover DVD, for each PC etc. and having a portable harddisk dedicated for each pc.
Except the extra investment for the licences, the most important thing is that it is still very complicated, especially if you have a lot of pc’s and employees.
Now, WD, Seagate, etc. all offer the very slow FILE BACKUP, I mean slow in case you need to recover your stuff from a crash on a PC. It is nice to have copies of files, but than still I would need to reinstall all the programs after first having recovered my OS. This has happened several times to me over the last decade and it sets you back like 10 to 14 days if this occurs.
Don’t get me all wrong, it is also good to have copies of (important) files by using File Backup, also to work on these files at other PC’s, but for this I can also use DropBox, Google Drive, Cubby etc. but it is too much to try or impossible to have your system-backup in a Dropbox.
This is what I want: PC’s HD faillure? No problem: just install a new HD, plug-in WD passport USB 3.0, reinstal the right image file → within 1 hour I am back and running my PC!!!
When it is made simple to use, it is simple to make it a routine to Make an Image Backup everyday/time I leave the office and have this done with every PC or even from a server. The only restriction would be “classified files”, but this can be solved through polivy.
Thanks for listening/reeding my bad English, hopefully everyone can understand my problem and effort to solve this.
