Hey guys I’m hoping someone here can give me some advice so I can help out a friend.
A friend of mine died recently and his widow has asked me to help her retrieve the data (includes all their wedding photos and unpublished articles he wrote so I really don’t want to mess anything up) from a WD external drive they own.
Apparently it had broken down before he died and he had been promising to get it sorted out but never got round to it.
I took the drive out of the case and plugged it in to my PCs internal SATA cable and it works so the problem is down to the case.
I realise the data is encrypted so my question is, can I buy another case and plug it in and expect it to work? I’m fairly sure that’s not going to work as it’s just to easy.
Is there a way to decrypt the data? She has no idea where he bought the drive, and says they owned I for longer than a year so any warranty would have expired.
I’m fairly sure she would pay to have it sorted out if she had to as she really wants the data but currently she is not well off and I am not in the position to help very much I that department.
Any help you guys can suggest would be great
