I don't need no steenking playlists!!!!!

I see so much aggravation and frustration in the forums over this that and the other thing related to playlists. I’m quite happy without them. I’ve used the GoList maybe 10 or 15 times, since September when I got my Fuze. So if you are like me, and live happily without fussing over playlists, then this is the thread for you. If it wasn’t for playlists and MTP/MSC, how many posts would there be in our forum every day? Anybody else with me?:smiley:

Agreed.

For the most part the main forum is a trainwreck.  That’s why I spend most of my time here in the off-topic area…:smileyvery-happy:

I don’t really see the problem with it. Then again, I don’t really how many people use (or don’t) Windows Media Player.

Ah, despite the naysayers, this is MTP’s forte.  Album art, metadata links, ratings, and playlists are a total no-brainer in this mode.

Building m3u lists makes me spit coffee all over the monitor.  Have you seen the Rube Goldberg mousetrap nightmare gihugic posts with “simple” m3u lists?  Wazzupwitdat?

I want a break from code, isn’t that what the music is all about?  I’d rather look at a ROM dump in Swahili than slave over an m3u playlist.

As for playlists and practicalities, I use them to group podcasts, and some favorite songs.  But like you, I routinely dump the whole ball of wax for new music.  Simply, there’s far too much great stuff, old and new, that begs a listen.  I love the “what are you listening to” thread for inspiration.  That’s what it’s all about.

Bob  :stuck_out_tongue:

On my e250, my go list is slower than some 500lb grandma. It freezes halfway while im scrolling down the list!

I only complain about Playlists because my online music buddies refues to buy the Fuze because of a) no gapless and b) lousy OTF playlisting. Sansa already added FLC and OGG which was the 3rd of their complaints. Since I want them to get Fuzes I keep asking for OTF playlisting.

OK I lied.

So I was working out with my Fuze this evening. I queued up my RECENTLY ADDED playlist. A song came on which reminded me of another album I wanted to add to the end of the NOW PLAYING list.

O snap. Can’t do that on a Fuze. Seriously?!?!!

I TOTALLY STAND BEHIND NEEDING AN OTF PLAYLISTING SYSTEM.

If you seriously think you do not need playlisting on your Fuze… you don’t understand the functionality it gives you. You simply don’t know what you are missing. Read on and allow me just one last chance to properly explain why On The Fly Playlisting is so important. Please.

OTF = Being able to create, save and delete playlist s on your device.

But that, my friends, is not the beauty of OTF Playlisting.

If a device, any device, has true ON THE FLY PLAYLISTING it must have some kind of menu like the one found on the Rio Karma/Trekstor Vibez:

NOW PLAYING>

     > PLAY

     > INSERT

     > APPEND

     > RE-ORDER

     > REMOVE

     > MAKE PLAYLIST

From those options (except Make Playlist of course) you can choose Album, Artist, Genre, Track…

Sit back and imagine the possibities for 1 minute. Imagine the possibilities that have NOTHING to do with actually creating playlists on the device.

I really like the Fuze, guys. I really do. The size is incredible and it does do many things well. Sound quality top notch.

But comparing the various ways to play music to the much older Rio Karma and the Trekstor Vibez which replaced it… the Fuze seems so behind in some areas it sometimes feels like a Fisher Price toy. I’ll gladly send my Karma to any Sansa developer that wants to try it out.

On the Current Fuze:

PLAY > ALBUM… PLAY > ANOTHER ALBUM… wait… where’d my first album go?

What do you mean I can’t queue up 3 seperate albums?!?!?

Why can’t I queue up 25 different tracks that are nowhere near each other alphabetically? O sure I can create… ONE GoList… and then of course I have to restart the GoList… I can’t add to it while listening to it… And if I want to keep my GoList… well … make a decision…

PLAY > GENRE > BLUES… PLAY > GENRE > ALTERNATIVE… Where’d the Blues go? O that’s right… can’t play 2 Genres together…

Are you starting to see the possbilities??? Seems pretty basic, right?

Imagine:

     > INSERT

No matter what you are listening to: a track, a genre, an artist, an album you can insert any track, genre, artist, album and it will play right after the next song AND it will keep everything else you have queued up behind that. You can create a NOW PLAYIING list of anything and everything. Mix it up however you want!

     > APPEND

Add ANYTHING to the end of whatever you are listening to and not lose what you are currently listening to nor your place in it.

     > RE-ORDER

Rearrange any of the tracks in your current list.

     > REMOVE

Remove one track from your list, one entire artist, everything below xyz track or remove everything and start over.

     > MAKE PLAYLIST

Honestly guys? … you are right. I could care less about making playlists… I just want to INSERT, APPEND and REMOVE.

Everyone uses their devices differently.  For the way I use my unit, playlists are completely non-essential.  That’s fine if you think they are important; but that doesn’t necessarily make them important to me…and this includes insert, append, remove and any other variant…

@ Peregrine: I can see why it would work for you…but it would be wasted on me. Like GB, my usage patterns don’t require any of what you described. The rare occasion I do want a list of sorts, the GoList works just fine.

… sigh… I give up.

I know everyone users thier devices differently, believe me.

@ Martian: What are your usage patterns?

I guess I thought being able to cue up seperate allums, or maybe only 2 albums from a certain artist instead of everything by an artist, or 2 genre’s… seems like the most basic “feature” on an mp3 player…

Ex: I just finished ripping a 4 CD set from BB King. I can’t just cue up the box set. I have to play everything from BB or just one album because the 4CD have different names. Yes I could have made it one album, I suppose. I can’t even use a GoList here because you can’t add entire albums to a GoList unless you do it track by track…

One more example. Ripped all that BB King last night. Well, I have all my BB tagged “BB KING”. WMP likes to tag it “B.B. King”.

Well I missed one to rename last night because it now shows as B.B. King… and I can’t cue it all up together because you cannot “cue up” 2 different artists on the Fisher Price… er Sansa Fuze.

You can add entire albums to a GoList…if I want to listen to a certain artist’s albums in chronological order, that’s how I do it. Go to the artist list, then I have the list of that artist’s albums…then I press and hold each one I want to add, just like you add a track. So this would work just fine for your new box set.

With the GoList you can…see my previous post

Most of the time, I have an artist in mind that I want to listen to, then I look at the list of albums, and listen to one of those albums. Sometimes, I can’t decide upon one album, so I’ll shuffle artist. Occasionally, I want to listen to an artist in order of release date…example, Alice In Chains, I would add to the GoList:

  1. Facelift

  2. Sap

  3. Dirt

  4. Jar Of Flies

  5. Alice In Chains

  6. MTV Unplugged

And once in a great while, I’ll choose a few bands, and add the entire catalog of each band to the GoList, and shuffle that. You can add whole album or whole artist with one button press now.

With my Clips, being on the go, I usually do just shuffle all, but never with the Fuze.

Oh, yea I guess that does work. Album > Add to GoList. DOH!

(But I like the GoList I created and didn’t want to mess with it… ah well… )

A question about adding Albums to the Golist…how does this work if you already have songs on the golist? Does it still play the album only or does it shuffle from the album to songs?

When you add stuff to the Golist you have to STOP the Golist, then restart it for it to recognize that you added new songs.

It’s really the “stop and go” list.

You can add entire albums to a GoList…if I want to listen to a certain artist’s albums in chronological order, that’s how I do it. Was this added as a firmware update? I was trying to do this recently and couldn’t get it to work. (or am I just missing something - it took me about 10 mins to find the ‘clear Go List’ - didn’t think of looking in the Go List itself!)

(I have version V02.01.09F, I haven’t updated).

Yes, it was. You should update, definitely!
