How to take advantage of the USB 3.0 feature?

I just bought the My Passport Essential SE 1TB. My Dell laptop has only usb 2.0 port and a eSATA port. I connect my Passport to the usb 2.0 and copy the files to my Passport but the speed just as the same when I use which my old WD external hard drive that has only usb 2.0. How can I improve the speed? Could any one please tell me ? Thanks.

Hi

The only way you can improve the transfer rate is by getting usb 3.0 ports on your computer, you can buy a USB 3.0 PCI card if you have a desktop.-

What if I connect the Passport to the eSATA port on my PC? Will that transfer faster than connecting it to the usb 2.0 port? I have not tried it yet. I will try it when I get home today. So basically, in order to take full advantage of the usb 3.0 feature from the Passport, a PC needs to have usb 3.0 port on it and that is it. Will any kind of calbe converter, adapter help? Thanks.

People are frequently disappointed by the actual speed of USB 3.0 being lower that the theoretical speed. There is the real limit of both actual drives, AV and security software, hardware on PC like motherboard, processor and ram just to name some things that slow it down. Some of the addon USB 3.0 cards also don’t deliver either. Personally I think it’s one of those things that work better in theory than in real life.
