Hi,
I am a first time member here. My HP Pavilion crashed, and I restored it to original factory settings.
I RETRIEVED ALL of my files with my PASSPORT drive, 39,000 files, but they did not go back to where they originally were in my computer. I don’t know where they are.
Can someone please tell me how to restore the files after they have been retrieved?
Thanks,
Jim D
If the original location no longer exists (A different computer, or a different operating system, or a different user account), then it will not be possible for the software to add files the original locations. Technically, it will, but you won’t see them as “the original location” because such location is not present in the computer itself.
In the Users folder within your C drive, you should see a folder with the name of your previous User account. This is where the files would have been if sent to the original location. Your files should be inside.
Thanks, Trancer. I had found those files, but they are just hundreds of files that have no names. Each file is one long series of numbers. Then you can go one level deeper by opening one of those long numbered files…to produce hundreds more of the same kind of long numbered files. And, I may have actually retrieved files that I put in the computer after setting my computer to "factory settings."So, the retrieved files (all numbers at this point) may only be from what I tried to put back with older DVD backup discs.I may have to try and go back to my external backup drive that I used to see if I can reconstruct the original backup of my computer before it crashed.A rep from the manufacturer (WD/“My Passport Essential”) is going to call me Tuesday to remotely take control of my computer to see if he can help.
Thanks again for your consideration.Jim Donaldson
