I have several audiobooks on cds I would like to load on my fuse+. Following is list of my steps and resulting problems.
1 Create folder on computer with name of the book.
2 Rip cds to mp3 files and place in this folder.
3 Connect fuse+ to computer. USB is set to MSC.
4 Open fuse+ in windows explorer. Open audiobooks folder on fuse+.
5 Click/drag book folder from computer to fuse+.
Problem: When I play the fuse+ I do not have an audiobook. I ended up with 166 books. This is the number of tracks in my book. It sees each track as a separate book and does not see the master folder. When I add a second book it does the same thing and now all tracks from both books are intermixed. At this rate I can only have 1 book at a time on my fuse+.
When I open the fuse+ in windows explorer I can see each book folder, and when opened, their associated tracks/files. But when I open fuse+ by itself all I have is garbage. 4 techs at Sandisk had 4 solutions. None of them logical and none worked.
Use a good tag editor such as the free program mp3Tag to edit the tags. Give all the files of the audiobook the same album tag to have them as a single audiobook. Make sure the track numbers are correct, sothey play in the proper order… Mp3Tag has an autonumbering function. Since there are more than 100 but less than 900 tracks, I suggest using 3 digit track numbers starting at 101, so that you don’t need to mess around with leading zeros. It is also a good idea to rip audiobook CDs to 32kbps mono mp3 files, as these are good enough for spoken word files, and 32kbps files take up only 1/4 of the space that 128 kbps files use.
Your problem is typical of what many mp3 players have trouble with. Fortunately, Sansa developers bacame aware that many owners like organizing files in the WIN/Folder manner. Amongst the options is a folder emulation mode. I personally found the original ‘Fuze’ to be better at this, but the ‘Fuze+’ does retain the functionality.
Your loading of the files as folders is fine, how you access them is where you need to change…
o Start by avoiding the ‘Audiobooks’ option and choose ‘Music’ from the menu.
o There is a host of selection options (Artist, Albums, genres, etc.), you want to go all the way to the end: ‘folders’
o Select either ‘internal’ or ‘external’ memory , depending on whether you have your files on a card.
o ‘Audiobooks’ should come up as the rootfolder
o From here, your book folders will appear separately. Select the first file as a song and enjoy.
