My circuit board of my book 1.5tb is kaput. Windows xp does not recognize the wd 1.5tb 3.5in green drive. Any ideas. Don’t want to lose my data. Did not back it up yet!!!

Inside the enclosure you should find a separate USB-SATA bridge board. The hard drive will be connected to this board. If the problem is confined to the bridge board, then simply attach your drive to a SATA port on your motherboard. This assumes that the bridge IC doesn’t use hardware encryption, in which case your data would be gibberish.
