HOW do you do this?

I just got a passport 750gig external drive… and it’s not like previous passport drives because it appears to be wanting to install some software in order to work… I don’t want, and shouldn’t need to do this because I just simply want a hard drive that connects via USB

So, HOW do I make this into a standard hard drive that I simply plug in, Windows recognizes it like all other hard drives,. and I start using it?

If I can’t find a way to do this, then I will return it… buy a new laptop hard drive and a 2.5 hard drive enclosure… and make my own small portable hard drive.

But, since I already have the passport… can it be made to be just a hard drive with no special software needed to use it???

What is it trying to install the Smartware or a driver?

Joe

It’s trying to install some smart something software.  And, it does not show up on Windows as a hard drive

Eh… I just decided I wanted a standard drive that does not require any special software.

So, I just bought a 750gig WD laptop hard drive and a CoolMax enclosure so I’ll assemble my own.

Don’t know why they can’t keep the new Passports simple, like they were a few years back when you
could simply plug it it, Windows recognizes it and installs a quick driver, and it’s ready to use.

My new setup will work like this…
