I have a problem accessing my storage drive from a different network name. The scenario is I have two network names (NETGEAR88-5G [5.Ghz]) and (Netguest [2.4 Ghz.]) both in one wireless router. When I set it up as a personal storage I used the 5G as access and not the Guest. The problem was the printer which is only compatible for the 2.4 Ghz (Netguest) to print directly. With this I have to connect to the 5G and transfer files to my computer then reconnect to the Netguest network.
How can I change mybook live to have access to Netguest or multiple network names? How do I add or connect my storage under Netguest network. It can’t seem to find the storage name locally. I could go over again on how I originally set it up but was hoping to get a direct easy fix on this.
This actually comes down to your router, not the MyBook. It is possible you have two subnets active (one for each WiFi frequency) and the DHCP is on the 5GHz subnet, but what sounds more likely is a vlan issue (2.4GHz not vlan’d to WAN side only or something).
What I would suggest is trying support for your particular router.
But what you can try is connecting to the 2.4GHz and checking your IP address. Say your IP address there is 192.168.1.100, try setting the Mybook to say 192.168.1.191 (keep the first 3 bits the same and go for 191 because it’s unlikely to be taken). Then try to connect to the Mybook on whatever IP you specified.
I went back to my router settings and made sure I didn’t miss anything. Apparently Netgear has a seperate options on the Guest network were in you can either choose to share or not share local network drives. I checked on the box and connected on the guest network and it’s now showing MybookLive drive. I can now access, and print from this network name. The Guest network has modified options just for Guest.
Just for reference from anyone having the same issue below.
HP Laserjet pro 200 (2.4 Ghz wireless compaitble only)
WD Mybook Live 3T (both bands)
For wireless printers that are only 2.4 Ghz compatible using Netgear settings IF Guest network is ON. You can either choose to use both dual bands for Guest. But in my case my printer is 2.4 Ghz compatible only and if you want this network to access your Mybook Live storage for easy access and printing. There is an option on the Guest Network settings “Allow guest to access My Local Network” make sure that’s clicked.
Thanks to Zatick I also changed my IP addresses since I have a lot of devices connected to my home network.
