Home Edition Backup is Stuck in "Processing Scanned Files" Mode

For a lot of details, you can review my other Message/Question posted a couple two or three days ago.

Background: The first two of three backups worked (one from an external 40 HD to a 40 GB partition on the MyBook and the second from a 75 GB internal HD to a 75 GB partition of the Mybook. On the MyBook, the 40 GB partition once completed now has 13.3 GB free while the 75 GB partition has 37.9 GB free.

The third internal HD which is the main one where the OS 10.4.11 operates from has 62 GB used and the partition was set for 75 GB.

My Problem:  the backup process seems to be stuck in the “processing scanned files” mode. Given that the other two backups (of 31 GB and 21.5 GB respectively) were completed in a matter of a few hours yesterday, it seems the third backup should have been completed last night late sometime. At 11 PM it was still “processing”.

Am I just being impatient or shouldn’t the backup have completed after about 8 hours last night?

I have essentially, stopped and restarted the backup process a couple of times and thins morning was able to observe the WD Anywhere Backup software recounting the “loading of the files” and begin the “processing” operation again.

Is there anyway to just stop the backup process and restart from the start? I haven’t found a way to do that.

If after waiting another  full 24 hours of watching the “processing scanned files” mode and without shutting down the computer or messing around with the backup program (btw, all energy saving systems are shutdown), what steps should I take next?

Thanks,

pahd

Well for whatever reason there has been no change. So I am going to move on and away from WD Anywhere Backup…

For everyone’s information and consideration:

As I was researching the steps to take in order to back up both a PPC G4 and Intel-based iMac with the idea of making a bootable copy of both operating HD’s, as well as another external HD (the G4 can run OS 9.2.2 which was originally located on an internal HD and later transferred to an external enclosure), I never even thought to ask myself whether or not the MyBook Home Edition was capable of working as a bootable volume, I just thought all HD’s could as long as they were set up correctly.

Well, do my chagrin, such is not the case…

Please review WD Knowledge Base # 1787 which answers quite clearly what WD external HD’s are compatible for booting on a Mac Computer…

and this link from Carbon Copy Cloner (which I have decided to utilized in lieu of WD Anywhere Backup) which explains what makes a volume bootable

http://help.bombich.com/faqs/troubleshooting/what-makes-a-volume-bootable

and how CCC  determines the “bootability” of a target volume

Good Luck everyone!

I’m out of here to find a HD that is capable of working as a bootable volume.
