hi guys any help appreciated.
i have a wd passport essential 250gb thats about 16mths old.it has started giving me problems where it takes ages to simply copy files to and from.even a blank folder takes about 5 mins to transfer or delete.
i have ran chkdsk on the drive and it returns with 0 errors.i am able to reformat it no problem but the serious lag issues remain.i tried running a surface scan but cancelled it when it gave an aproximate end time a couple of weeks from now.it was scanning at a rate of 7mb per min.
it has 2 partitions both formatted to fat 32 split 50/50. i have only used one partition to store games and the other unused.it was working fine and the suddenly stopped.it still sounds ok and is in a position where it couldnt have been dropped or fallen.
is there any other tests i can perform?
would updating the drive with software help?
could it be that the drive is on the way out?.
the product no is WDBAAA2500ABK-00 if that helps.
