Well Brand new?? Charged the battery and tried to turn it on very small letters in top left corner said key locked system shutdown, what does that mean and can it be fixed? Thanks

Sounds like you have an e200 model. They come locked from the factory. To unlock it, simply slide the HOLD switch on the top of the unit away from the headphone jack. Now it will start up normally.
The purpose of this switch (in everyday use) is that when it’s locked, you cannot accidentally jump tracks or change the volume, etc. without unlocking it first. This is useful if you carry the player in your pocket.
