Hello,
I have a 1TB essential HD that just shut off out of nowhere…
When I plug it in the computer the computer recognizes the HD and acts like is working but no drive shows.
I went to Disk Management and it shows there, but it says 931.51 GB “Unallocated”.
I have always used WD Hard Drives and never had a problem with them before.
Is there anyone that can help me at least get my DATA back ? I have many important projects in there that I really need.
Thank You.
I need to add that the HD says that there is no partitions on it and also I went to properties and it says “Device is working properly” and under the “volumes” tab it says partition style “Master Boot Record” …
HD doesn’t have a letter assigned to it and it doesn’t give me an option to add one to it.
The only option I get if I right click on it is “New Simple Volume”
Any help would be really appreciated.
I’m no expert here, but I’ll offer a few ideas.
How is the external power supply for your external drive, is it delivering the correct voltage?
On this note, maybe even try a different wall outlet, or bypass any power strips you may be using.
Did you try and plug the drive into a different USB port to see what would happen?
Have you tried to plug the drive into a different computer to see if it is recognized there?
Did you run any disk utilities or new security software prior to this incident?
If so, you many want to contact the vendor about this as well.
Try this: Power down the computer. Unplug the main power cord of the computer for at least five minutes. Reconnect cord and power up.
Once the computer has booted up, power up the drive with it’s power cord, then attach drive to the computer’s USB port. This sounds kind of lame, but sometimes this really works with USB connectivity issues.
My gut tells me your data is still there, but somehow the computer or the drive is throwing a hissy fit and refusing to see it. I see there are plenty of very sharp people here - I bet someone can help you with this.
Good luck.
Hello TGIFman
Thanks for replying.
I tried almost everything on your list and no luck.
I went to BEST BUY and got an external enclosure just to see if I had any luck with it but nothing… (HD is now out of the WD enclosure).
I tried “GETDATABACK” And “testdisk-6.14” and no luck.
At the moment I am trying “AOMEI Partition Assistant” to try and recover any deleted or lost partition because “testdisk-6.14” said that no partitions were found.
I am clueless at the moment but still got high hopes to getting my data back…
Thanks again, and any more ideas will be more than welcome.
