Hardware audio decoding?

All my music on my Clip is currently in FLAC format and I find my battery won’t last through a whole workday.  It occurs to me this may be because FLAC is decoded entirely in software.

My question is: does the Clip Zip have a hardware decoder for any of its supported audio file types?  This seems the most practical way to decide what lossy format to use for music on my player.

I didn’t see this info in the manual or tech specs, apologies if I missed it!

Hardware audio decoders have not been widely used in portable electronics since the 1990s. Its all software for everything now. The zip uses a really slow flac decoder though. If you install Rockbox you get our optimized one which is actually more efficient than mp3.

This really nice information. Thanks for sharing here.
