For reference, I have this model of WD external HD: WD My Passport External Portable Hard Drive HDD (1 TB to 5 TB) | Western Digital
For a while i had to position the cord a certain way to get it to connect to my PC.
Now it won’t connect at all, even with a new cord. Could it be the port on the actual HD that’s messed up somehow and is there any way I can fix it.
I have a lot of valuable things on there I can’t afford to lose.

Low cost USB cables for 2.5" and 3.5" disks are widely available
I found low cost 2.5" SATA SSD are $249 in Canada which make hard disks kind of passe
I’ve tried other cables and it’s not that

Could be the box is bad so a low cost USB box for desktop disks is an option
Sorry I’m not familiar with what that is. Do you mean the port on the HD where the cord plugs into?

I’m still not sure what it is but found one for cheap
I’ll give it a try if there’s any chance of recovering my stuff
These drives integrate the USB-SATA bridge electronics onto the HDD PCB. Therefore, a third party enclosure will not be of any use.
