Hi, I have Sansa Fuze version 2. It was working fine for several months but now it started to shut down for no apparent reason. I turn my Fuze on, it starts fine, can even play different mp3 files but then, usually within 10 seconds or so, it spontaneously shuts down. Sometimes it lasts longer than 10 secs but eventually it still shuts down, even if it’s not playing anything at the time, for example, while browsing config settings. Any ideas? Thanks
Might be a hardware problem with the battery connection. You have a one-year warranty, so call 1-866-SANDISK.
I probably don’t have warranty for that Fuze. In another thread for similar problem someone suggested formatting the drive and reinstalling the firmware, because some files may have gotten corrupted. You Linux diehards make it difficult for yourself.
You can format from the Fuze itself if it’s working. Settings/System Settings/Format (down near the end of the scroll, past the first screen so you can’t do it accidentally).
Or if you can’t format on the Fuze, format to FAT32. That’s the only way the Fuze firmware is going to be able to read anything.
Before you format, change the USB mode to MSC while the Fuze is working (Settings/System Settings/USB). Only one USB mode is visible to your computer at a time. That may be why fdisk is showing empty. But you are really asking for trouble messing with partitions.
If you can’t change mode, you can force an MSC connection (the generic USB connection readable by Windows, Mac, Linux…). Turn the Fuze OFF. Slide the power switch down to click into Hold (orange dot visible). Connect USB to computer. Open up whatever your equivalent is to Windows Explorer. Hold down the << side of the wheel and connect.
If you can’t format from the Fuze itself, you might be better off using someone’s Windows computer for 3 minutes and formatting.
