Formatting WD Elements 2Tb external hard drive on Lion 10.7 "unable to write to last block"

Hi, Ive just purchased a WD Elements 2Tb External hard drive. When I plug it in to my macbook the lights flash on the drive, but box pops up " The disk you inserted was not readable by this computer" I try using disk utility where it does recognise the drive and try to erase and or partition the drive but get this message “unable to write to last block”

Can someone help me please…

What format did you try to assign?

Best to format HFS+J

try reformatting on windows and then retry on Mac
