Final Cut Pro Issues

I am attempting to use my 1TB WD My Passport Studio external hard drive between different operating systems on different Macs (all Pro’s) as a liason between myself and my editor.  He is using Final Cut Studio 7 and I am using Final Cut Pro X, however I don’t think the different program usage is the issue.  Initially I began the project on Final Cut Pro X, instructing it to save all content to the passport. After uploading the footage, I renamed many of the clips, but they did not save when my editor plugged the passport into his computer all he could see was the date and time of the original footage, as the camera had recorded it. (the camera is a Sony HDR-WR500V)  Tonight, we plugged the passport into his computer, a slightly older macbook pro, and renamed everything again.  Upon hooking the passport back into my newer macbook pro, none of the renaming we had done on the passport had saved.

Please tell me if there is something I am missing or neglecting to do.  This is 3 hours of tedious work down the drain, thus far, and I would very much appreciate any assistance. Thanks.

are you sure that maybe you haven’t corrupted something on the drive?  are you safely removing the drive when you transfer to the other computer?  and, what file systems are you both using?

The question here should be : are the changes been saved at all?

The fact that you are using different computers should not have any effect on the files that you have on the drive.

This is just storage so whatever you save will be saved period.

Try to rename the file, save the changes, eject the drive, disconnect and try the same computer and see if the changes were saved.

Are you attempting to use the drive on both computers at the same time?  Maybe through some network server or router?  Cause that would sure account for what you’re experiencing.
