I have a USB 3 2TB passport that I purchased new at the end of August for school and it seems to be deleting files randomly.
Today I tried to access a word file and the explorer show the file but when I clicked it it said not found. Sure enough I refreshed the folder and it was gone. A few hours later I tried to open another file I had worked on Sunday afternoon but It wasn’t even there, another folder had some of the related files associated with it but they disappeared as soon as I went into that folder. Is this a problem with this drive?
I tried Recuva after reading a few posts on this forum but the files I need are not listed there. Any help would be appreciated.
Hi, might be a virus or a data corruption problem, scan the hard drive using your antivirus and if it doesn’t find anything, backup all your files and reformat the passport. You can also use testdisk to recover your files.
Thanks for your help, unfortunately for me I think im out of luck.
I did check for a virus as that had crossed my mind and it came back clean, I’m just wondering if it might be on the school computer (they supposedly deep freeze every night).
I used testdisk and was able to recover all of my deleted files up to Sep 29, but none of the missing files I worked on Sep 30th or later show up there so I guess they are corrupted and just vanished?
I have similar issue with my 4TB drive. I would copy files from my iMac to the drive and they would immediately disappear as it was being copied, but not the case for ALL folders to which I was copying to. Only some folders.
However, when I accessed the drive from my Windows 7 laptop, the files were all there… Still doesn’t fix the issue though.
