FAT corrupted with strange extra partition

I just got a new 4gb clip+ and i formatted it on my mac, and this was followed by it telling me that the FAT was corrupted.  So i tried formatting again and the same thing.  So I got on my windows computer and formatted it and it worked again.  The problem is that it wants to create two partitions, one of which is unusable.  E: is where all the normal folders (music, podcast, etc.) are located and the partition only appears to be around 200mb. F: is not accessible and that is where I’m assuming the rest of the remaining free space on the drive is located.  How do I fix this?

the clip+ will show as 2 drives if it is set to MSC mode. one for the internal memory and one for the external slot. the one for the removable slot should show as no media if there is no card in the slot. try formatting on a windows PC and then look at properties to see the used /free space. if this does not show the full capacity do a google search for “hp disk storage format tool” download that and use it to format the clip+ that should bring it back to the original capacity.

As the good Dr. indicated, in MSC mode your device will show up as 2 separate drives. In your case, the E: drive is the player’s internal memory; the F: drive would be the card slot. This shows up whether there’s a card inserted in the slot or not. If there is a card in the slot, you can access the memory there, depending on what size the card is. If there isn’t one, obviously you can’t and you’ll get the error message.
