My WD MyPassport 4TB Drive failed after 1 year of use. That is bad enough. What is worse is that after I mailed in the bad drive for warranty service, WD did not process for 50 days. Now I am still waiting for the replacement drive.
Last year, one of my 6TB WD Red drives failed. I received the replacement drive within two weeks.
This year, WD received the failed drive on November 1. Today is December 20. The status of my warranty service is still “Received / Processing”.
I do not think I am the only one suffering from this kind of bad warranty service. Any idea on how to deal with it?
About ten years ago I had a really bad experience with Seagate 2TB internal hard drives. There was a rumor that Malaysia flooding caused big problems for Seagate factories. Seagate intentionally sold low quality hard drives to unsuspecting customers around the world. Two years ago there was an attempt to organize class action suit against Seagate.
Now I have many old WD internal hard drives operating for many years. However, recently I had one 1-year old internal 6TB drive failed, and this 1-year old external 4TB drive failed. Now even the WD warranty service stopped working.
Has Western Digital also degenerated to a miserable state?
What options do consumers have?
