I tried to update the firmware on my WD My Passport 750 (WDBABM7500ABK-EESN) and unfortunately it told me the update had failed and I would need to re-apply it. The problem is, the firmware updater is no longer recognising the drive, WD data lifeguard will not recognise the drive and drivemanager will not recognise the drive.
Windows itself is recognizing it as “initio default controller”. I did some research and apparently “initio default controller” is the interface chip and the drive has prepared itself to accept a firmware download but I cant apply it if the firm ware updater doesn’t recognise it.
You may well be right, though it was working perfectly prior to the firmware update.
As to why I did the update; the on-board WD utilities were not installing with Windows 8.1 and someone suggested updating to the latest firmware. A bad move with hindsight!
same problem here. My WD My Passport 1TB is detected as Initio default controller after firmware upgrade. the warranty has expired. i have to throw it?
