Failed Backup

I have a 4Tb My Book, new yesterday, the first backup completed OK, but the next programmed backup (daily) failed with the error - ‘Unable to initialize the backup engine while backing up files to My Book’. The ver of WD Backup is 1.9.6354.40545.
Any answers, please

Hi Terry,

I have the same version using on WD Passport; works fine with hourly backups.

That error message almost says that Backup is working on a backup. Was there a date and time at Last Backup to indicate that it was complete? Has anything changed since you wrote your question?

I know this doesn’t help you a lot. Just given some thoughts.

Hi Cliff, thanks for your response. I looked at the folders created during the initial backup procedure and they are empty, so no backup of files took place. I uninstalled the WD Backup software, downloaded a new copy, installed it and the same thing occurs. So on the whole a little disappointed to say the least. I might try MS 10 backup and see if that works. Will advise.

Maybe you need WD Smartware. Look up your drive under the Software tab. It will tell you which one to use.

Not sure about using MS Backup. Some WD drives have hardware encryption which blocks MS software.
