Extracting Data Files Onto New Computer

This may be a basic question, but I want to make sure I don’t make a mistake.

My computer died and I purchased a new one. I have a My Passport drive I’ve been using to backup my files. I need to extract the files off of that drive and onto my new computer. I downloaded the WD Utilities and WD Smartware files compatible with my drive. Could someone please tell me how to extract the files or direct me to a place that gives me specific directions?
