External Hard disk does not get recognized

Hi,

So far I could use the external hard disc (320 GB) very regularly on my existing desktop. Since last 4 months I have not used it. But when I try now, it asks to install the USB drive. When I try to install using the ‘Install the software automatically (Recommended)’ option, it searches for wizard and pops up the error message ‘the hardware was not installed because the wizard cannot find the necessary software’ . Being the old drive, I do not have the installation CD with me.

I need to access the data from the drive. Please help.

Hello mate,

Check on the wd support site, they have most of the drivers for the external drives depending on the model number that you have.

If your drive is very old, it might work with the generic windows drivers… Make sure that your computer has all the windows updates.
