Economic Stimulus... My Way

So we have a Thread on here of What are you listening to, A thread devoted to Bacon, a cookie thread, and even one devoted to mystery meat and male “Medications”, And then more related to the player, favorite artist and bands. But nothing about whats new and cool and how people are  “Stimulating the Music Economy”. So my thought is this, our views and styles are so different, it would be cool so see what people are buying/renting(*Cough*Rhapsody), with hopes of expanding my musical horizons. So If you want post album art, or links to the stuff you are buying. Thanks

P.S. If you suggest it and Its got a cool cover… I’ll Probably Buy it … Dont ask me why… I don’t know why…

Ill Start…

Perhaps the Second greatest Musical Act To come out of Ireland (Van Morrison is the best IMO). Thin Lizzy was fronted by Paul Lynott, and had radio hits in the US, with “Whiskey in the Jar”, “Jailbreak”, and “The Boys are back in town”. This Record (Which I picked up this week) was recorded In Philadelphia, durring 2 live shows in 1977. Its an amazing recording. I would recomend anybody who likes Classic Rock, get it and fast.

Well, I don’t know how stimulating it will be economically-speaking, but I just picked this up tonite on E-Bay for .69 cents.

What I’ve recently bought…not necessarily in order of purchase. Some digital downloads, a few physical CD’s.

Whats the little one with the 2 guys on the rooftop?

Tape whould have to do that one… I would Join… Oh wait Im a poser. :stuck_out_tongue:

I don’t usually go the “digital download” route… I try to get all my music in a non-compressed format.  I have an “open tab” at Amazon, as I almost always order several CDs a week.

My most recent purchase has been the following Gamma releases… The best band that not too many people have heard of.  Even their presence on youtube is nearly nil.  I have all of their stuff on LP, but throughout the years, I played them enough that I wanted fresh copies.

Not new music, but I got a new e280v2 player last week.

Can’t have enough of these babies around, either for a spare or back-up or for Rockboxing when they get it ported. Still looking for a v1 in the 8 gig configuration to install RB on now though. My current RB’d player (e260) just isn’t cuttin’ it. Picked up one of these on E-Bay about 2 weeks ago for a good price, but it turned out to be a View. The person apparently wasn’t that familar with the Sansa line.

Even though considering the price I paid for it made it an even better deal, I sent it back. That way the seller can turn around and re-sell it for a more appropriate price.

How different are they from the Fuze? The Fuze was my first ever MP3…I was a little late to the party:wink:

I know some of you will roll your eyes at this one…but I’m way beyond being worried what others think of me.  Just ordered Kelly Clarkson’s “All I Ever Wanted” Deluxe Edition, so I would have uncompressed versions of the bonus tracks that aren’t on the regular release.  I have heard it already and it’s more in the vein of her first 2 albums…I kind of liked the darker “vibe” of ‘My December’ better, but that release didn’t make “uncle” Clive very happy…Anyway, it’s nice to have some new Kelly music to listen to…

Nobody buying anything?

I had a slow day today.  I only ordered one…and it’s only a maxi-single at that!  But, there is a lot of bang for the buck; 8 versions of the Excellent Jewel Kilcher song, “Serve the Ego”.

I actually ordered

The Crystal Method, Legion of Boom as suggested by Marvin. Other than that I have a bunch of new stuff at work. Ill post it tonight.

  • Purple Haze
  • Fire
  • The Wind Crys Mary
  • Hey Joe
  • All Along the Watchtower
  • Stone Free
  • Crosstown Traffic
  • Manic Depression
  • Little Wing
  • If 6 Was 9
  • Foxey Lady
  • Bold As Love
  • Castles Made of Sand
  • Red House
  • Voodoo Child
  • Freedom
  • Night Bird Flying
  • Angel
  • Dolly Dagger
  • Star Spangled Banner

Not bad for $2.24 + 3.00 shipping. That works out to .26 cents per song!

Where?

Why on E-Bay of course.

Tape how often do you buy off e-bay and get a CD thats scratched up or not playable?

Don’t think I’ve ever gotten one that was very bad off E-Bay. They’re normally pretty honest of the condition in the description. Most have been in excellent condition, come to think about it. Some have even been new & sealed. I got a Glenn Miller 2-Disc set brand-new & sealed one time for the opening bid of $ .01. No one else was even looking at it or bidding. The shipping was I think, $2.99, so for 3 bucks I got something I could have easily spent $30 or more for in a record store or even on Amazon. Another deal was a new Woody Herman 4-Disc Box Set for (if I remember correctly) $6 or $7.

As far as scratches? Wow, some of the ones I’ve been ‘borrowing’ from the libraries in my area are really chewed up. More so than the ones I usually get off E-Bay. Some look like they’ve been played with as frisbees out in a gravel parking lot. But beings as how CD’s are read by a laser as opposed to the old vinyl records and needles, the scratches are merely cosmetic. They really don’t affect the play at all. At least they haven’t in my case. I can’t remember one either from E-Bay or the library that has skipped or was un-playable. Maybe I’ve just lucky.

There’s one that was scratched badly enough that I couldn’t burn a copy of it though. I could rip it fine and the .mp3’s play without a hitch, but it was too scratched to copy to another disc. So I ripped it again to FLAC, hoping to convert that back to a CD for archiving. As yet though, I haven’t found a way to do it. Got any suggestions? The Roxio software I have to burn CD’s with won’t do FLAC.

The best “tool” I’ve found to resurrect scratched CDs is EAC (Exact Audio Copy).  It takes a bit of time, with a bad original, but I’ve had wonderful results with that program.  I often get CDs that are out of print from my local Goodwill store, and without fail, EAC has been able to salvage even unlistenable CDs into great copies.
