e250 MSC mode - 2 drives, 0kb, unknown file system

I have an e250 v01.00.12A and when I put it into MSC mode and connect it to my computer, it shows two drives, each completely blank and with a size of 0 and an unknown file system. The system setting menu has NO options to reformat the drive. I am trying to install Rockbox or even just update the firmware, but I am completely at a loss as to how to approach this. I tried using the Sansa Updater in recovery mode but nothing worked.

In MSC, from Windows Explorer,  can you right-click and Format? Use FAT32.

Or go to the Firmware Update sticky, near the top of the page. and follow the manual instructions.
