My desktop is out of commission and I tried running the 3tb mybook I have, but can’t seem to get the password right. I also can’t find anyway to change it? I don’t want to loose the information on there, and Smartware doesn’t seem to work on my inspirion 7000, WD security doesn’t recognize it either.

Without the password, it is doubtful you can use the software. However, the files may be accessible directly. Open the external drive under Windows Explorer. You should see either WD Smartware.swstor or WD Backup.swstor. Open that and work down through folders until you find one with History and Volume Folders. Your files should be in the Volume folder. But they might be encrypted and not useful.
