Dismantle the Duo and use them as separate HDDs?

Need advise. For about 6 yrs ago I baught a

WD My Book Duo 12TB, (2*6TB) model WDBLWE0120JCH

to use as a backup unit for the PCs on the home-LAN. At the setup I chose the ”work as a single HD” option. Everything still works just fine and I had zero issues with it, but I realize now that I won’t need all that space for backup, so I’d like to move out the data from it into this new, smaller, external SSD storage device that I’ve just baught (4TB Kingston XS2000), dismantle the WD Duo, reformat it back into two 6TB HDDs, and install the devices internally in two separate PCs for ordinary data storage where they are better needed.

Is that doable? Will the twin HDDs accept to be reformatted back into two separate units? Do I need to run any special WD ”clean-up” utility in order to achieve this? Warnings/hick-ups regardíng the procedure? I’m not very keen to throw away two large and still working (?) hard drives and buy new ones…

I would appreciate your advise!
