My recently bought “My Passport Ultra” displays this message in Properties after a friend transferred files onto it from a Mac.
“Windows cannot verify the digital signature for the drivers required for this device. A recent hardware or software change might have installed a file that is signed incorrectly or damaged, or that might be malicious software from an unknown source. (Code 52)”
He said I might need to reformat before I could use it on my Windows 7 computer, but I don’t know how.
What you are experiencing relates to Windows being unable to support a hard drive what has been formatted to be used in a Mac.
Instructions that will allow you to format your hard drive back to a Windows-friendly file system (NTFS) are available in the following link alongside instructions for a cross-platform (exFAT) configuration based on your needs. Bear in mind the files within your hard drive will be erased once formatted.
