Decoding mkv files from hdd/tv to home ciniema reciever

hi

my films that have dts encoded on them do not decode to dts on the home cinema amp…i have a 1tb external HDD drive connecetd to my samsung 3dtv via the usb. i play the mkv files via the media player on the tv. the tv is connected to a yamaha home cinema reciever  ia an optical lead form the tv ( old one as it does not have hdmi inpiuts). im only getting stereo but noth 5.1 or dts as its just silent on there.

any help would be good.

Almost no TVs will decode DTS or AC3 and then pass it over their optical out.

If you want the amp to do the decoding, you’ll have to connect the media player directly to the amp.
