After running a smartware backup using the continuous backup option, the backup button returns to enable backup and continuous backups are not made. I ran a second backup and the software seemed to backup continuously, however after a few minutes the backup button returns to enable backup and continuous backup stop again. Any advice?

Have you tried uninstalling the software and installing that back again?
I downloaded the most current version and reinstalled the software twice.
What’s the OS of the computer? IF it is Windows, then Skynet needs for the Microsoft .Net Framework 4 patch to be installed.
