connection problems

When I first connected the c250 last month, my computer automatically did several things:

1)  displayed the Corel Photos window…I would hit “cancel”

2)  another window popped up, asking me whether I wanted to synch (which player), view data on the c250, etc.

3)  displayed the connection in the lower right panel (next to the clock) with a green check.  I could click this to “safely disconnect” the device.

Now, when I connect the device, the Corel window comes up…but that’s it.  No Sansa player window comes up

asking me what I want to do.  And no indicator shows in the lower panel.  I’ve tried going through My Computer,

finding the device, and disconnecting it there.  But I’m not sure that works…I don’t get a message saying

“It is now safe to remove device”.

What am I doing wrong?

I’m running Windows Vista.

“'I’ve tried going through My Computer, finding the device, and disconnecting it there.  But I’m not sure that works…”

  • What doesn’t work about that? Do you see the device in my computer at all? Can you explore the device, and things of that nature? What if you switch modes on the device, by going through the settings>usb mode options.

I can enter the device thru My Computer, delete files, etc.  But there’s no indication of how to

safely remove the device.  I’ve tried Tools—Disconnect from Network, but that doesn’t do anything.

I’m careful not to disconnect while files are downloading.  But, finally, I have no choice but to just unplug it.

Am I risking damaging the device?

personaly, I rarely disconnect and run into issues because of it (unless its downloading or something like that).

In auto-detect / mtp mode you can just unplug it. You should have the option to (if you want) to safely remove the device in the bottom right of the system tray, where the time is.

I’m careful not to unplug it while downloading, so I guess I’m safe.

It used to show up in the tray every time.  Now it almost never does.

I liked having that “disconnect safely” signal.  Thanks.
