Connection Issues

Hi, I have a fantastically orange WD Passport Drive – 2TB. I’ve always used WD for external drives and they have been very reliable up until now (touch wood). The problem I seem to be having is connecting the drive in the first place. Once connected though, everything works great as always but getting my Windows 10 PC (yuk!) to recognise the drive to start with can be a bit hit and miss. Using my previous passport drive’s lead allowed me to connect my drive okay. BUT…i went home and plugged the drive into my Linux box to back it up and it would only recognise the drive if I used the lead that came with the drive – the one that Windows 10 at work did not like.

I’m a little confused as my old drive is recognised fine on both computers with both leads. Could this be an issue with the port that the lead is plugged into on the actual drive?

Does anyone know of any tests I could run or any trouble-shooting tips please?

Summary: Basically when I plug the drive in at work (Win10) it spins but doesn’t show up in Windows Explorer. If I use an older lead it works. I go home and plug it into my Linux box and the old lead doesn’t work, but the new one does (the lead that came with the drive and doesn’t work with Win10). Hope this makes sense.
