Connecting e280 to Windows (various versions)

I have a trusty 8GB Sandisk e280 (v1 I believe).  It is more or less full.  It is set to MSC B mode.  I don’t use (or want to use) Microsoft’s Windows Media Player.  I want to wipe all the music off it and replace with new material.

I can connect it up to a Windows 2000 PC without problem, showing all directories and files.

I can connect it to a Windows XP SP3 PC without problem but can’t see / access the MUSIC directory.

A Windows XP SP3 Laptop doesn’t even recognise it!

Two questions:

  1. How do I get it connected to a Windows XP SP3 system and have it show the MUSIC directory?
  2. Is there any way quickly to wipe the contents of the memory (Initialise / Format / etc.)?

Thanks in advance for ay help.

I think theres a format command in the options menu.

  1. Try changinig the settings in Windows Explorter to “show hidden files and folders”. If I recall correctly for some reason the MUSIC folder is set from the factory to “hidden” on e200v1 models.

  2. Formatting would be the quickest way. The v2 models have a Format option in the Settings menu, but the v1’s do not. Connected in MSC mode to your computer, you can right-click on your player’s icon and select Format.

Thanks for that Tapeworm.

I had noticed that a number of directories are hidden, changing that didn’t seem to help.  I ended up connecting the e280 to my Windows 2000 PC and deleting the content of the MUSIC directory there.  All seems fine now.

Again, thanks for your help
