Computer stops when I connect my passport

Hi

I’ve just bought WD My passport 500 gb, when I connect it while computer is working everything stops. I can’t move mouse, can’t open task manager the only thing I can do is restart the comupter. If the disk is connected while computer is starting it’s working ok, but if I unplug and plug it again computer stops again. Can it be fixed by me or I need to make use of guarantee ? Oh and my OS is win7 x64

Since the gear is all brand new, and because it is USB 3.0, getting the latest driver and trying to do a clean install (after uninstall) would be something to look into. Check the USB ports in Device Manager, too. Are there any devices with warning flags?

I went through a lot getting Asmedia on Asus USB 3.0 working reliably. A sick driver could cause the freezing you describe.

Check the manufacturer’s site for driver updates for USB 3 card and motherboard. USB 3 has been a problem for a lot of people.
