computer locks up after disconnecting clip+

Hello.  I searched through this forum for a long time and didn’t find anyone else with this problem (which is probably not a good sign).  I just bought a clip+ and love it, but most of the time when I disconnect it from my computer the RAM on the explorer.exe process shoots up to over 3 gigs, freezing my system for about two minutes, then drops down to about half of my usual RAM usage.

I have a clean Windows 7 64bit install and this is the first problem I’ve had with my computer since then.  Also, it works if I change the USB mode to MSC, but I want to be able to use all the features on MTP (I sync my music w WMP and my podcasts I add directly to the Podcast folder using Windows explorer).

I hope someone can help me.  : (

You should still be able to sync in MSC mode.  Which parts of MTP did you want to use?

I’m on XP so can’t help with windows 7, sorry.

Really I just like the aesthetics of it.  Windows 7 has the device stage that pops up with a picture of the player, etc.  With MSC all I get is a generic picture of a drive and the name “SANSA CLIPP”.

If I have the ability to use all the features, I’d rather not have to use a backup plan.

If that was all you wanted you really don’t need it.

I’m not sure if this is applicable in Windows 7, but have you tried “ejecting” the device before removing it? This usually results in a far cleaner disconnect for Windows.

That’s only necessary in MSC mode. In MTP mode, no eject, or safely remove hardware, is required. This continues to true in Windows 7.

Just to let everyone know, I uninstalled the stupid Sansa Firmware Update software a few days ago and my computer hasn’t frozen up since then.  I’ll keep my fingers crossed and manually update my firmware from now on.
