Has anyone had every song disappear? As the battery was low, I plugged it in to charge, and my son disconnected it within a 1/2 hour. When he went to play, the entire library was gone. Where and why?
Try having a look with the Sansa connected to the computer. See if the files are still there, using Windows Explorer.
If you connect in MSC mode, you can try running chkdsk on the Sansa, as it’s possible something was corrupted during the last connection. In MSC mode, you can also delete the music database file (Note! This is just the database index file, and not your music.)
In the root directory of a v2 device, the file is mtable.sys.
In the root directory of a v1 device, delete the DATA folder within the SYSTEM folder.
When you unplug, the database refresh mask will pop up on the Sansa, and see if your music is once again available.
