I recently spent and evening photographing with an ancient card reader from 2006. everything shot fine the files were recorded from camera to card. i can see them in the photo reveiw.. but when I plug in my CF through a card reader or from my computer to my mac book… my computer will not recognize it… how would you suggest i go about trying to get these items off of my card? do you think it is a card issue or a age gap issue between my computer and my devices?
If you can still see the photos on your camera, that’s actually a good sign. It means the files are probably still on the CF card.
I’d first suspect the old card reader rather than an age issue with your Mac. Try a newer CF card reader and, if possible, connect the camera directly to your Mac with a USB cable.
Also, check Disk Utility to see whether the card is detected there. If it appears but you can’t access the files, try a reliable data recovery program to scan the card.
Most importantly, don’t format the card or take any more photos with it. If the pictures are important, avoid repeated attempts and recover them to another drive, not back onto the CF card.
