Can't see/retrieve files

Does anybody know how to see the files like the usually are?  When they are blue indicating they are backed up?  I also can’t retrieve any files back on to my computer.

Thanks

We can’t see the pic until it’s approved by a moderator. What OS and which drive are you using? How did you backup with Smartware or another way? In Windows blue usually indicates a compressed file.

Have the same problem!

Windows XP 2002

Same problem with my WD [delete] as well. I can see files on the external drive, but if I try to copy/move them back to another location (e.g. hard drive on my desktop), WD says it can’t find the file(s). I’m running Windows XP (latest service pack) and manually placed the files on WD drive (didn’t use back-up software).

Are you guys trying to retrieve a backup from a computer to another?

Yes. In my case, I manually saved files to external drive from a Win XP system and am trying to recover the files from the external to a Win 7 system.

I’d guess it’s a permissions issue.

It seems Windows thinks you don’t have permission to access the files.  Despite the user name being the same, even if you re-install Windows on the same computer, Windows will see it as a different user.  The 2 user names are definitely “different people” on 2 different PCs.

Try going to the files’ Properties on the Win7 box (in Administrator mode) and give yourself permission to access the files.

If I share files from one PC to another, then the “Jim” user can read the other “Jim” user’s files… but if I physically move the drive to the other PC, then the second “Jim” can’t directly access the files without playing with permissions.
