About a month ago I realized that I could not access my documents. Installed new WD software on 1/23/2012.
(Software Versiion 1.5.1.6
Now I can find files that were backed up on 1/23thru 1/24 but nothing after that. (eg. 1/24 and 1/25.
Here is my procedure: I go to My Passport J: Shortcut then among a dozen or so files is WDSmartWare.swstor
(says modified 1/23/2012 / PAUL-PC (paul is my name) / Volume / Paul / Documents (Date modified 1/26/2012)
the latest document that I can find is 1/24/2012.
What am I doing wrong? I find the directions in the manual less than clear.

Have you try searching for the specific file name you are looking for?
Don’t know how accurate is the date modified information.

Today (1/27) I can retrieve an Excel file from several minutes ago, but I cannot do the same with a word document.
What’s going on here?

Then try another software or better yet do it manually.

At this point my solution is probably going to be to try another manufacturer and a new external drive in the hope that instructions for set up, backup and retrieval and clear and concise, which they are not for the WD Passport…
