Can't copy a 4,37GB file to My Book > too large?

Hi,

I’m trying to copy a 3,47GB file to My Book (using Windows 7, Windows Explorer, HDMI connection), but it says the file is too large. There is more than enough space left on My Book, so I can’t figure out why it doesn’t work. Same issue was posted here: http://community.wdc.com/t5/My-Book-for-PC/My-Book-Essential-4-5GB-file-too-big-to-copy/m-p/33759/highlight/true#M1987 (I’m not able to reply to this post, but that’s yet another issue…)

I really hope there’s a solution to this, because I mailny use My Book to backup my movies.

Regards, Dacuz

Windows will only handel files up to 4 gig if the drive is formatted FAT32. You need NTFS I think there was a post on converting this lastnight by RoofinGuy  http://community.wdc.com/t5/My-Passport-for-PC/How-can-i-transfer-a-movie-file-over-4-GB-to-my-passport/td-p/81345 .

Thanks for the explanation Joe. I didn’t manage to successfully convert yet, but I replied to that in to the post you’ve mentioned.
