Can recover after folders created in reformatted drive?

As an experiment, I plugged my 2 TB Elements hard drive into my phone via a USB to Micro-USB adapter, but when I plugged my Hard Drive back into my PC, I noticed that all of the files I had on there previously were gone, and the drive had been renamed from Elements to Removable Disk. It had created two empty folders in their place. Can I still get back my information on the drive with file recovery software like Recuva or TestDisk?

The only way to find out is to try.

First thing to remember though, you will need to recover the data to a different harddrive.

So, if the 2TB was pretty full … then you will need another 2TB harddrive to recover the data to.

Personally, i remember recovering 98% of data from a fully formatted harddrive years ago using GetDataBack for NTFS (it’s not free though)
I think it took about 8 hours to recover 1TB of data :weary:
