Can not access my WD Passport Elite 550Gb hard drive

I have a 550GB WD Passport Elite external hard drive that I use with a Dell XPS laptop running Windows 7 64bit. This HD has preformed beautifully up until yesterday when I couldn’t access any folders or files on the HD. I use Adobe Lightroom ,Photoshop and Adobe Bridge every day and this HD is loaded with JPEG,TIF,PSD and Nikon NEF files. Over the last week I had noticed that operations seemed slower than usual. Now, I can click on My Computer and see the HD, when I open it, it will take a very lng time to open. Once It has opened I can see my job/photo folders, when I scroll over them It shows me the folder size but says the folder is empty. If I try to open the folder I can see the individual files but if I try to open one it says it can’t find the file on drive H and do I want to look for it.

I am at a loss here. I’ve tried many of the other suggestions listed on these boards,eg; reinstalling the WD virtual Cd software, and checking my drivers.Which,BTW, does show a small yellow exclamation icon next to it. The re-install does not seem to have done anything what-so-ever.

Any help or solutions that you may have would be much appreaciated as i have pending client jobs on that HD that I must  access in order to complete the job.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Have you try to use another computer? If so , is still the same ?

seems to be that you have a Corrupted file system , so in that case use the Following  Suggestions

1-get a data recovery Software in order to extract all the files out of the drive such as ( EASEUS)  which you can search for it on google and is freeware…

2- you could get a Repair utility to Fix this corrupted file system such as ( TESTDISK )

3- After you have all the Data OUT OF THE UNIT , then i will suggest you to reformat the Hard drive in order to solve

 any possible data corruptions

Thanks for your response. I downloaded the EASEUS recovery software and ran it. It recovered  the files but theres nothing there in the files. They look like JPEGS, PSD and NEF files but there is no readable data there. I only tried the free data version of the EASEUS software so maybe their version made specifically for photo data recovery might  work better.

Any other thoughts or suggestions?
