Can I run G-Speed ES eSATA and ES PRO SAS on same MacPro?

I have several older G Speed ES drives along with a newer ES PRO SAS.
I have a PCI card for the eSATA drives, and bought an ATTO card for the SAS drive.
My question is, can I install both cards and run both drives (ESATA and SAS) at the same time on my MacPro?

Hello Deke,

Yes,you can absolutely use both devices simultaneously.

Hi Rydia,
Thanks for your reply…

I moved the ATTO R348 card to Slot 2 (don’t know if that makes a difference from Slot 3 or 4 since it’s a 16x slot vs. 4x) and installed the G-speed PCI ESata card into slot 4. I have a Blackmagic video card in slot 3.

With the AJA system test or Blackmagic Speed Disk test, the SAS Raid (Raid 5) is getting about 363MB/s write/348 read but the G-Speed eSata (Raid 0) is only getting about 130MB/s write/160MB/s read. This seems very low for RAID 0 although this drive is about 1/2 full and the ESPRO drive is empty. Both RAID drives check out okay with no degraded drives.

I thought that SAS was slightly faster than eSATA, but is this speed difference normal?

Thanks.

Hello Deke,

It is very normal for that kind of performance difference. miniSAS is multi-channel instead of a single eSATA, It can be about double the performance.
