Can I remove drives for My Book Studio Edition II and use in external device?

I have a My Book Studio Edition II 2 TB with (2) 1TB drives in the case. The main controller board seems to be pooched and the drives seem to be OK. Can I remove them and use them in an external SATA hot swap device? Will I be able to recover data on the drives or is it encrypted? I am on a Mac system.

I believe you should be able to connect them to your computer and recover your data.

Could not recover data using Data Rescue and StellarPhoenix. Drives reformatted fine and are working well.
