Can I change the drive's default IP address?

Can I change the drive’s default IP address?

For example, let ’ http://192.168.60.1 ’ be ’ http://192.168.78.1 ',

The reason for this question is,

This is because the default address of the drive is outside the DHCP range of the router, so the dashboard for the ‘My Passport Wireless SSD’ from the PC can not be loaded.

The 192.168.60.1 IP address is never visible on your home network. That’s the IP address for the drive visible to you when you’re connected to the MPW-provided WiFi connection.

If you then join your MPW to your home network, it will get an IP address from your router that will be in your normal range.

Whether or not you can then access the dashboard from there is not something I remember off hand.

Sorry for replying 8 days later but I haven’t checked the forum in a while besides the mails I received about new replies to my posts…

@TonyPh12345 is correct about it having an IP address from your home router. If you want to connect through your normal router to the MPWP/MPWSSD, you have to enable the ‘share content on this network’ through the webui on the device. Connect to the device via it’s WiFi and then navigate to it’s webui. From there, select the WiFi tab and then the section on the right where your WiFi AP name is, if you click it you will see the option to check the box. That’s all that’s needed to allow your normal network to access the device/webui from your normal network.

If you want to change the 192.168.60.* range if connecting via WiFi on the MPWP/MPWSSD device, you can do this though you have to make sure it’s a range that you won’t encounter on a network you connect the MPWP/MPWSSD to as it will create conflicts and confuse things. TBH, I don’t recommend doing it since it’s not really needed… Anyway, if you absolutely want to do it or having conflicts since a network you’re connecting to uses the 192.168.60.* range, on the WiFi tab, if you select edit for the middle box, you can change the WiFi AP names, passwords, and on the advanced tab even the IP address/range. Once again, I don’t recommend doing this as there’s no real “value” that you will gain from doing it unless the network you’re connecting the device to a network that uses the same range.
